I like to think, I hope, that the many people I have mentored are my strongest legacy, and that is my greatest contribution to our society.  Only those with whom I have shared what I know can be the true judge of this statement.  But it is my hope. 

What makes me decide to help one person over another is often an intangible something that I do not understand but yet it is there, and specific.

Sometimes it is seeing part of me in them; sometimes it is seeing something I can learn in return.  The relationships are always reciprocal, some lasting for years, others for a few weeks.  Sometimes, it is more formal in set-up other times more silent.

I think it is seeing in them their deepest dreams and aspirations, and knowing how close they are, if they simply take a few more steps... maybe that way...

I mistakenly use the word “seeing” here, but like my photography, it is not something I ever see, but rather something I entirely feel.
