He has produced both low-budget and Hollywood studio films starring Tobey Maguire, Reese Witherspoon, Brad Pitt, Gary Sinise, Vin Diesel, Elijah Wood, to name a few. His films have screened at numerous film festivals, including, Sundance, Toronto, Austin and Boston.
He has probably produced or worked with more first time directors than just about any other producer in Hollywood, most notably Gary Ross’ feature debut film, the triple ACADEMY AWARD nominated PLEASANTVILLE which he produced alongside Steven Soderbergh and Jon Kilik. He was instrumental in helping to develop the world’s first digital intermediate, adding to his thorough knowledge of motion picture technology.
Bob also worked as a Production Executive at New Line Cinema, where he oversaw nearly 20 projects from AUSTIN POWERS, to LOVE! VALOUR! COMPASSION! to F. Gary Gray’s highly successful film, FRIDAY.
Early in his career, Bob served as head of production at Chanticleer Films where he produced, post-produced, and/or was directly involved with more than forty 35mm shorts, made under the auspices of the award winning “The Discovery Program”, which received more than five ACADEMY AWARD NOMINATIONS during the period he oversaw the program, and literally hundreds of other awards from film festivals throughout the world.
He directed and produced the low-budget, award-winning independent feature, THE SURVIVORS (aka 9/Tenths), which was where he fell entirely in love with actors and what they do and teach us. The film was deemed of sufficient cultural merit that the Library of Congress requested that it be included in part of it's the Permanent Collection. He has just completed a feature screenplay that he’s currently directing and producing.
Bob has been a guest speaker or moderator at; the Sundance Film Festival, Showbiz Expo, HD House–Park City, as well as writing articles for industry publications. He has worked as a legal expert witness offering his opinion on filmmaking.
He is a voting member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and regularly serves on the Foreign Language Film Award Nominating Committee. He is also an active member of the Executive Board of his branch.
